Rich lamb mince filling with vegetables — just add mash on top and grill for a classic shepherd’s pie.

Ingredients

  • 500g lamb mince
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 100g frozen peas
  • 1 lamb stock cube dissolved in 250ml water
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Brown the lamb mince and drain off fat.
  2. Add to slow cooker with onions, carrots, stock, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, rosemary, and flour.
  3. Cook on Low for 6-8 hours.
  4. Stir in frozen peas in the last 30 minutes.
  5. Transfer to a dish, top with mash, and grill until golden.

Tips

The difference between cottage pie and shepherd’s pie? Shepherd’s uses lamb, cottage uses beef. Now you know.
